The New Mexico Chapter of the Air
and Waste Management Association (AWMA) will hold its July meeting in the
Banquet Room at the Golden Corral Buffet and Grill (10415 Central Avenue NE, northeast
corner at Eubank) in Albuquerque
on Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at 11:30 a.m.
Sandra Ely, Environment and Energy
Policy Coordinator, and Brad Musick and Lany Weaver, Environmental Analysts, all with the New
Mexico Environment Department (NMED), will present: “Proposed NM Rules for Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Cap-and-Trade
Program.” Later this year, NMED will be proposing to the
Environmental Improvement Board (EIB) three new rules that would:
1. Enhance reporting of GHG
emissions,
2. Require third-party verification
of GHG reports for facilities that emit 25,000 metric tons carbon monoxide
equivalent (CO2e), and
3. Establish provisions for NM
participation in a regional Cap-and-Trade program.
This presentation will describe the proposed
reporting and verification rules (Brad) and the proposed cap-and-trade rule (Lany), and respond to questions
regarding the policy basis for these rules (Sandra). For more information
about the proposed GHG Cap-and-Trade Regulation, please visit: http://www.nmenv.state.nm.us/cc/CapandTradeRegulation.htm. For more information about the
proposed new GHG Reporting and Verification Regulations, please visit: http://www.nmenv.state.nm.us/cc/NMEDAQBNewGHGReportingVerificationRules.htm. Further information about the hearing,
including the public comment process, may be found at the EIB website: http://www.nmenv.state.nm.us/eib/index.html
